Members of Walhalla American Legion Post #124 elected new officers for the next two fiscal years at its July meeting. In the photo from left to right are: George Dunagan-Commander; Jimmy Hall-Vice Commander; Jon Busch-Sgt. At Arms; Jerry Dyar-Finance Officer; Ernie Cannon-Adjutant; and Don Bickers- Chaplain. Absent from the photo was Rick Gibson-Membership Chairman. The new officers will serve a two- year term ending on June 30, 2020. New Commander George Dunagan said he plans to meet with the new officers and Executive Committee in the very near future to outline and set goals for the next two years. Among other projects, Dunagan said, “I hope we can get a much needed new parking lot on the South side of our building. In addition, many of our members are expressing hope that we can do some type of landscaping around our beautiful new Post Home. Of course, continuing such projects as our Honor Guard military funeral honors program, Boys State, American Legion baseball, Adopt-a-highway projects on Coffee Road and North Highway 11, support for the local Boy Scout Troop, Food Bank project, and the Walhalla High School Jr. ROTC program will remain very much on our list of community priorities”. The Walhalla American Legion Post meets the second Monday of every month at the new Post Home, 319 Kenneth Street, next door to the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office. Any and all veterans with at least one day of active military duty during a time when the United States has been “at war” has a special invitation to visit with, and or, join the local veterans organization. You can contact Rick Gibson, Membership Chairman at 973-1380, or any member of Post #124.
