Seneca Police hold Popsicle Fridays during Summer

Throughout the summer, officers of the Seneca Police Department have been holding popsicle Fridays. On Friday, July 20, Captain Casey Bowling and Investigator Mike Teramano organized an event in the neighborhoods of Scenic Heights and Clemson Ridge. This was part of a summer program, where officers visit random areas within the City of Seneca to socialize with residents and kids in a relaxed setting, explains Lieutenant Lisa Williams. “Captain Bowling and Investigator Teramano that is their brain child. They thought it might be good for us this summer just to go out, we usually do it every other Friday. We target different areas. We try to do apartment complexes and the reason for that is it is just easier to get more children there as opposed to going into more residential areas. We do flyers and send them out ahead of time so that the managers can get those posted and make the residents aware that we are going to be coming by and whoever is working that day usually goes. Usually I’m there, I pretty much go each time because I work Monday through Friday, normally. So, every other Friday we show up at an apartment complex. We give out popsicles, junior police badges, toys and just talk to the kids and interact with the parents. So, it is just a good public relations thing and it is something that we like to do to give back to our community. It is not all about the PR and getting the credit; it is giving back to our community. It is getting out there in a positive environment, in a positive way to be able to reach out to children and their parents. If they have questions or they want to look at our cars or ask us anything we are there and available to them. It is a real neat thing.” This extra effort by officers of the Seneca Police Department is designed to be more visible in the community, be more approachable, and meet more of the citizens that officers serve.
