Pickens Man sentenced for Trafficking in Meth

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins announces that 64-year-old Robin Cater Sweezy pled guilty Tuesday, July 31, to trafficking in methamphetamine and was sentenced to 17 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections by the Honorable James Barber. He will have to serve at least 85% of the sentence before he becomes eligible for parole. Evidence presented at the plea hearing by Assistant Solicitor Brandi Batson Hinton established that in February of 2017, Sweezy was the subject of an ongoing drug investigation conducted by the Easley Police Department and the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Based on that investigation, on Feb. 22, 2017, officers with the Easley Police Department, SLED and Pickens County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Sweezy’s residence in Pickens County where they found over 100g of methamphetamine. Sweezy had an extensive prior record dating back to 1973, which included burglaries, assaults, larcenies and prior drug offenses.
