SDOC Teachers go back to work Today

Teachers are back in their classrooms today in the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) actively preparing for another school year. Oconee County Schools Associate Superintendent of Administration Steve Hanvey says this an exciting time. “Well, its an exciting time in the district. We have our teachers returning today and a lot of them have been in and out getting things ready and doing things. We had a great turnout for our Summer Institute, which was the first three days of this week, but there is nothing like getting that group back in there. Everybody talking about their summers and what they have done and how the kids have grown. Then getting settled in to have those meetings and getting prepared to welcome the students on Aug. 20. So, it is an exciting time for our staff to come together today.” Hanvey encourages students to prepare now to go back to school on Aug. 20. “They need to be making that transition, we hope that they don’t wait until the night of Aug. 19, to decide that they are going to try to get a good night sleep. We do encourage parents to work with their kids in making that transition to getting to bed at what would be the normal hour for school, getting up early, getting into the routine, making sure they have everything they need and just talk with them about that. It puts them a tough spot when they are running around and it is a struggle to find everything to go. So, we tell them to get prepared the night before so that you are ready to go in the morning and we look forward to them joining us on Aug. 20.” To view the 2018-19 calendar for the SDOC, visit www.oconee.k12.sc.us.
