Townville Man arrested for Burglary and Grand Larceny

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Townville man over the weekend on charges of first degree burglary and grand larceny. Booked into the Oconee County Detention Center on Saturday after being transported from the Anderson County Detention Center was 29-year-old Cory Adam Whitten. He remains in custody on a combined $60,000 surety bond. A deputy responded to an address on Dillard Hill Drive near Seneca on Aug. 5, in regards to an alarm call. Deputies were able to determine that entry had been made into the residence. As the investigation commenced and as they spoke with the homeowner, deputies discovered money and a firearm missing from inside the residence, plus, deputies also discovered a boat that was missing from the homeowner’s dock. As the investigation continued and evidence was gathered in the case, deputies received word from the Department of Natural Resources that a boat with identifiers matching the missing boat was discovered in Anderson County with an individual identified as Cory Whitten on board. A firearm with matching serial numbers to the firearm that was stolen from the Dillard Hill Drive residence was discovered on Whitten, as well as cash money. Whitten was transported to the Anderson County Detention Center while deputies in Oconee County obtained the arrest warrants for burglary and larceny against him.
