Salem Man arrested on First Degree Burglary Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Salem man early Tuesday morning on first degree burglary charges, reports Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “38-year-old Andrew Michael Wilson of Sunrise Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center. He was also charged with assault and battery in the third degree in the same incident. At this time, Wilson remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center as he was denied bond on both charges. Wilson will appear before a Circuit Court Judge at a later time regarding bond. A deputy responded late Monday evening to a separate address on Sunrise Drive in regard to reports of a burglary. The homeowner told the deputy that they observed a man on the top of the basement stairs of the residence peeking inside the living room. The homeowner told the deputy that he did not know the subject nor had given him permission to be inside the residence. The homeowner physically removed the subject from the home while asking him to leave. The subject reportedly swung at the homeowner in an attempt to hit him but did not strike the homeowner while also at other times taking a fighting stance. The subject then left the scene before deputies arrived. While on the scene conducting the investigation, the subject in question, later identified as Wilson, approached the deputy. The subject told the deputy that he was playing a game and knocked on the basement door of the residence, with someone inside telling him to come in. Wilson also told the deputy he was a federal law enforcement agent but could not provide any credentials as such.” Based upon the evidence gathered, Wilson was placed under arrest and transported to the Oconee County Detention Center.
