Help solve Recent Vehicle Break In and Stolen Firearm Case in OC

The public’s help is being sought by Crimestoppers of Oconee County, Inc. and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation into a recent vehicle break in and a firearm that was stolen from that vehicle, explains Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to an address on Marcengill Road near Westminster the evening of Aug. 7, in regards to a vehicle break in in which a firearm was stolen reportedly from the glove box of the vehicle. Based upon information provided to the deputy, investigators believe that the firearm was taken sometime between Saturday, Aug. 4, and the time the incident was reported due to the fact that the victim told the deputy that the vehicle was unlocked on that Saturday night and that paperwork from the glove compartment was discovered in the seat of the vehicle on Monday morning, Aug. 6. The victim did not look for the firearm until Aug. 7, and discovered it missing. The firearm that was reported stolen is a black semi-automatic Taurus 380, which was in a black nylon case. In addition, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office advises citizens to not only lock their vehicles, no matter if they are at home, on vacation or shopping, but along with that, make sure to remove any valuable items from your vehicle, such as firearms, electronic items, wallets, cash or checkbooks when you arrive home.
