Additional Charges filed against Fair Play Man for Wednesday Pursuit

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has filed additional charges against a Fair Play man in relation to a pursuit that concluded with an accident Wednesday. 39-year-old William Roger McGuffin of Tammi Lane had outstanding warrants against him on a charge from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office for grand larceny and three Westminster Magistrate Bench Warrants. On Wednesday, deputies from the Warrants Division of the Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve those warrants on McGuffin in the Walhalla area. However, McGuffin left the scene in a white vehicle. Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but McGuffin did not obey officer commands and did not pull over and led deputies on a pursuit. The pursuit eventually made its way to Wolfers Hollow Road, where the vehicle driven by McGuffin struck one of the deputy’s vehicles head on. A short foot pursuit ensued and McGuffin was taken into custody. McGuffin was taken to Oconee Memorial Hospital due to an issue unrelated to the incident. McGuffin was released from the hospital and then transported to the Oconee County Detention Center. The South Carolina Highway Patrol conducted the investigation into the accident. An inventory of the vehicle produced a quantity of methamphetamine, which was turned over to agents from the Narcotics Division, who obtained an arrest warrant against McGuffin for possession of methamphetamine. McGuffin has also been charged with one count of failure to stop for a blue light and driving under suspension. Further investigation also revealed that the vehicle McGuffin was driving was reported stolen to the Clemson City Police Department. Therefore, McGuffin has been charged by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office with possession of a stolen vehicle. Also, McGuffin has been charged with two counts of violation of probation by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardons.
