Workdays scheduled for Abernathy Park

More community volunteer workdays have been scheduled for Abernathy Park in Clemson, tells Mayor JC Cook. “It got so hot that we’ve put off more build dates, but we’ve scheduled some more build dates in October. So, starting back in October when it starts cooling off a little bit be sure to go online, look at those dates and sign up. We always need volunteers, this is a community volunteer effort. So, people that live in the community or don’t live in the community but enjoy the park, we’ll take volunteers. If you don’t know what to do we’ve got people there to train you. City crews also help out. So, it is a great opportunity to be a part of history really, everybody that works on one of those crews gets to sign a board and then we will install those boards once the deal is done at City Hall. So, everybody can come by to see their name where they signed on a board as part of the rebuild project.” The city’s website can be found at www.cityofclemson.org. The Larry W. Abernathy Park is about 19-years-old and the boardwalk is worn out, so the city is replacing about 7,000 liner feet of boards. Volunteer positions are available for all skill levels and abilities. In addition, lunch will be provided to all volunteers.
