Six killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Sept. 9, 676 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 685 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists 32 in 2018 and 29 in 2017. Oconee County reports 13 traffic fatalities in 2018 compared to 9 in 2017. Pickens County has experienced 12 traffic deaths in 2018 and 15 in 2017 at this same time. Of the 470 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 238 were not wearing seat belts. Through Sept. 9, 101 pedestrians have died compared to 98 in 2017; 71 motorcyclists have died compared to 80 in 2017; and 12 bicyclists have died compared to 13 in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on Sept. 9, 2018.
