Man sentenced for killing Brother

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins states that 33-year-old Ryan Cameron McBride was sentenced this week by the Honorable Letitia H. Verdin to 22 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections for voluntary manslaughter. He will have to serve at least 85% of the sentence before he becomes eligible for parole. Evidence presented at the plea hearing by Assistant Solicitor Mark Moyer established that on Jan. 4, 2016, McBride killed his brother, Sean McBride, in the home where Sean lived with his mother and stepfather. The evidence revealed that Ryan McBride became enraged at Sean for refusing to loan him money and started a physical altercation that culminated with Ryan assaulting Sean with a knife. Sean McBride sustained a stab wound to the back of his lower right leg, just below the kneecap, which caused massive bleeding and caused him to become comatose. He survived on a ventilator before dying on Feb. 5, 2016. Ryan McBride told Greenville County Investigator David Picone that he had ingested 30 Lortab pills, an opioid also known as hydrocodone, throughout the day leading up to the incident and that he had been addicted to the drug for the previous 11 years. Solicitor Wilkins states, “A truly tragic case and is evidence of the collateral damage that opioid addiction is causing in our communities. We will continue to fight to get this horrific substance off our streets so that this family and our community will not have to endure another senseless act of violence.”
