Three killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of three people killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Sept. 23, 717 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 717 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists 34 in 2018 compared to 29 in 2017. Oconee County has experienced 13 traffic fatalities in 2018 and 12 in 2017. Pickens County reports 12 deaths in 2018 compared to 16 in 2017 at this same time. Of the 497 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 248 were not wearing seat belts. Through Sept. 23, 2018, 110 pedestrians have died compared to 104 in 2017; 73 motorcyclists have died compared to 87 in 2017; and 14 bicyclists have died each of the past two years on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on Sept. 23, 2018.
