Setoff Debt Program approved by Seneca City Council

The City of Seneca has a new tool in its arsenal to collect on delinquent bills. During Tuesday night’s meeting, the Seneca City Council approved second reading of an ordinance relating to the Setoff Debt Program, explains City Administrator Scott Moulder. “This is the unpaid account collection program through the South Carolina Municipal Association that will assist us with collecting any unpaid debts for water and sewer, Light and Water accounts if you will.” Unless debtors settle what they owe, they are further subject to a processing fee of $25 and other collection costs. City officials warn that failure to pay up subjects those who owe to seeing their state income tax refunds garnished.
