Annual Refueling scheduled for Oconee Nuclear Station

Duke Energy is preparing for its annual refueling at Oconee Nuclear Station near Seneca. Mikayla Kreuzberger, Spokesperson for Duke Energy’s Oconee Nuclear Station, says motorists should expect more traffic around the plant entrances on Highway 130 and Highway 183. “Oconee Nuclear Station has refueling outages every fall and every other spring. So, we will be having a refueling outage this fall 2018. We do typically bring in several hundred contract employees for our refueling outages and that does mean that traffic will be heavier during the outage time. So, we ask our employees to be safe at work, but also when coming and going from the site and just as people drive near these areas, especially when people are coming to work and leaving from work just know that traffic will be heavy.” During the refueling outage, Unit One will be temporarily taken off line; however, the other two units at Oconee Nuclear Station will run as normal.
