OCPL turns 70 in October

The Oconee County Public Library (OCPL) is gearing up to celebrate its 70th anniversary next month. OCPL Director Blair Hinson says a number of fun activities are planned for the third week in October. “We are going to be doing a Customer Appreciation Week. It’ll be that third week in October and we’re going to be doing some really fun things on our anniversary, which is Oct. 18. We’re going to have cupcakes at the Branches and that’ll be the week where if you need a replacement card you can come on in and we will be giving you a replacement card. We’ve got really neat cards right now that have a 70th anniversary theme to them. There will be some other surprises coming up, but I’ve got to talk to my board about first. We will be celebrating anniversary, the library in Walhalla first opened in October of 1948. So, we are really looking forward to that and pretty proud of the fact that 70 years later we are keeping this library going. I’m real proud of our staff, they have come up with some wonderful ideas, not only for this, but for all the programs that we do.” To learn more about fun things to do at the local library, visit www.oconeelibrary.org.
