Highway Patrol list Four Deaths over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people were killed on state roads and highways from Friday, February 15, at 6pm until Sunday, February 17, at midnight. As of February 17, 69 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 99 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012.  Oconee County reports no deaths in 2013, compared to three in 2012 at this same time.  In Pickens County, five lives have been lost on state roads and highways in 2013 compared to three in 2012.  Anderson County lists one in 2013 compared to seven in 2012.  Of the 48 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 31 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight February 17, 12 pedestrians, 7 motorcyclists and 1 bicyclist have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight February 17, 2013.
