Eight killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

Eight people died on state roadways over the weekend, reports the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. As of Oct. 7, 2018, 766 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 763 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety list Anderson County with 37 traffic deaths in 2018 compared to 32 in 2017 at this same time. Oconee County has experienced 13 fatalities in 2018 compared to 12 in 2017. Pickens County reports 15 traffic deaths in 2018 and 17 in 2017. Of the 533 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 268 were not wearing seat belts. Through Oct. 7, 2018, 115 pedestrians have died compared to 111 in 2017; 79 motorcyclists have died compared to 99 in 2017; and 15 bicyclists have died compared to 14 in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on Oct. 7, 2018.
