OC Law Enforcement Center to host “Boo With The Blue”

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a safe and fun opportunity for children with the first “Boo with the Blue” event, explains Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “The event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 6-8pm at the Sheriff’s Office parking lot, which is in front of the Law Enforcement Center at 300 South Church Street in Walhalla. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office will be giving away candy for trick-or-treaters in vehicles that drive through this area with some deputies wearing various friendly costume heads. Also, the Sheriff’s Office parking lot will be decorated with blue lights as well.” “The Sheriff’s Office wants to create a fun event for families on Halloween where children and parents can feel safe,” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “We are always thinking of ways that law enforcement can build a positive relationship with our youth and this is a great opportunity.” In regards to Halloween, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office offers these safety tips. Motorists should expect increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic from late afternoon through mid-evening on Halloween. Motorists should make sure their headlights, brake lights and other lights on their vehicles are working properly. All costumes and bags should have some type of reflective material on them and wearing a costume with light colors is always a good idea. Make sure that costumes fit properly to reduce the risk of falling and tripping. If you will be walking in your neighborhood going door-to-door, make sure that children have adult supervision and travel in groups in well-lit areas. You may want to consider carrying a flash light or glow sticks so motorists can see you better. If you are planning to go from house to house, you may want to consider going to residences of those you know, whether it be families, friends or neighbors. When you arrive back home, make sure that the candy is sealed properly in its packaging.
