Five killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

Five people were killed on state roadways over the weekend, reports the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. As of Nov. 4, 2018, 855 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 846 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Anderson County with 40 deaths in 2018 compared to 36 in 2017. Oconee County reports 14 traffic fatalities in 2018 and 16 in 2017. Pickens County has experienced 16 roadway deaths in 2018 and 19 in 2017 during this same time period. Of the 595 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 310 were not wearing seat belts. Through Nov. 4, 2018, 125 pedestrians have died compared to 134 in 2017; 88 motorcyclists have died compared to 107 in 2017; and 17 bicyclists have died compared to 16 in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on Nov. 4, 2018.
