Elliott wins District 1 on the OC Council

Voters elected a new councilman in Oconee County on Tuesday. In the race for Oconee County Council District 1, John Elliott received 5,925 votes or 79.40% to Bill Bruehl’s 1,491 votes or 19.98%. Elliott was very grateful to his supporters for helping him capture the seat, which is currently held by Oconee County Council Chairwoman Edda Cammick. “First of all, I want to say that Bill Bruehl ran a real good, clean campaign and I look forward to balancing issues and getting advice off of him. He is a real fine gentleman. I look forward to going on the county council, I think I can represent the whole county and I’m going to do what is best for Oconee County and the citizens of Oconee County.” Bringing more jobs to Oconee County is one of Elliott’s main priorities. “I’m hoping that we can continue economic development in the right way to keep employment high in Oconee County and make us a prosperous county, but also protecting the beauty of Oconee County, so that we can continue to enjoy the reason why we live here.” Elliott appreciates residents going to the polls to cast ballots for him. “I just appreciate everybody coming out and voting. I think today is a great day for America because I think you will see that it was record voting all over the country. I think that is a super thing for people to exercise their right to vote.” Elliott will be sworn into office in January to serve a four year term on the Oconee County Council.
