Seneca Rotary names Ballenger Award Winner

The Seneca Rotary Club recently honored M. Tannery and Sons as its 2018 Ballenger Award recipient. This award is named after G. W. Ballenger, the first president of the Seneca Rotary Club and the owner and operator of a hardware store on Main Street in downtown Seneca for many years. Mary Tannery, owner and operator of the store, accepted the award, which was established to recognize businesses and non-Rotarian business leaders for exemplifying the tenets of the Rotary Four Way Text in professional and personal dealings; Truth, Fairness, Goodwill and Friendship and being Beneficial to all concerned. The award-winning business must have been in existence for 10 or more years, operate in the greater Seneca area, demonstrate and promote loyalty, high ethical standards, and dedication in commerce to the local community. Mary has been in business for 17 years in Seneca and has created a destination shopping experience for people across the Upstate. Mary is a member of the Oconee Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Seneca Merchant Association, and the Ram Cat Alley Merchant Association. She serves as president of Lachlan’s Hope, a non-profit organization that works to advance patient care, fund childhood cancer research, support families in need, and grow the National Marrow Donor Program. In addition to her professional obligations, Mary is married to Jason Tannery and the mother of two boys. Her mother, Evelyn, who owned Circa 1930 restaurant in Seneca, is also a past recipient of The Ballenger Award.
