Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day

The Oconee Heritage Center (OHC) and Patriot’s Hall, Oconee County’s Veterans Museum are partnering to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of The Great War also known as World War I, tells OHC Assistant Curator and Education Specialist Jennifer Moss. “Join us for events throughout Veterans Day weekend, Nov. 9-11, 2018. All events are free and museum admissions are free. We have Movie Night at the Museum on Friday, Nov. 9. At 7pm, see Sergeant York at the OHC. Popcorn and drinks will be provided free. Poppy Day is Saturday, Nov. 10. From 12:30-1:30pm, make paper poppies for commemorative wreaths at both the OHC and Patriot’s Hall. Kids are welcome. At 1:45pm, join us for a ceremony as we place the handmade wreaths at the veterans monument at Oconee County Courthouse. At 2:30pm, Brock Lusk will present Tigers in the Trenches at Patriot’s Hall. At 3:30pm, Jacques Macy will discuss WWI Trench Art at Patriot’s Hall. On Veterans Day, Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11am, ringing of the bells. At 1pm, the Oconee County Veterans Day Parade on Main Street in Walhalla. From 1-3pm, Patriot’s Hall will be open with refreshments.” The OHC is located at 123 Brown’s Square Drive in Walhalla and Patriot’s Hall is located at 13 Short Street in Walhalla.
