Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Fair Play On Multiple Charges

(Seneca, SC)————-The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Fair Play man on multiple charges, including Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. 31 year old Christopher Nicholas Elgin was observed walking by a Sheriff’s Office deputy on Armstrong Road late Monday afternoon. Elgin had outstanding warrants for his arrest. After catching up with Elgin, the deputy observed Elgin sitting in a silver Nissan Altima, which was reported stolen from Anderson County on Christmas Day of last year. Elgin then got out of the vehicle, ignored officer commands, and led the deputy on a foot pursuit before he was captured and placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest produced a set of keys to the Altima on Elgin’s person. Elgin admitted to the deputy that he had been driving the vehicle but Elgin stated that he received the vehicle from someone else.

Besides the Possession of a Stolen Vehicle charge, Elgin has also been charged with Resisting Arrest in relation to the incident on Armstrong Road. The outstanding arrest warrants against Elgin charge him with one count of Petit Larceny, one count of Distribution of Heroin and one count of Distribution of Methamphetamine. Elgin also had an outstanding General Sessions Bench Warrant. A hold has been placed on Elgin by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardons.
