Seneca Fire Department Responds To Train Versus Train Accident

(Seneca, SC)——————The Seneca Fire Department responded to an accident last night involving a train versus vehicle.

According to Seneca Fire Chief Richie Caudill, the accident occurred on Highway 130, or Rochester Highway at Anderson Street. Chief Caudill says that the occupants of the vehicle were safely outside the vehicle when fire crews arrived.

Chief Caudill says that it appears that the driver was turning onto Anderson Street from Rochester Highway, accidentally turning onto the railroad tracks and becoming stuck. Before a call could be placed, a train appeared on the tracks. The occupants exited the vehicle and moved to a place of safety before the vehicle was struck by the train. No injuries or damage was reported to the train or tracks but there was heavy damage to the vehicle. Norfolk Southern and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating.

Chief Caudill would like to remind our citizens that there are reflective blue signs located at  railroad crossing that contains an emergency number to the railroad company and by calling  that number, it can help to get to get any trains stopped that may be coming through. Regard  less, Chief Caudill says that by calling 911, dispatchers can also contact the railroad companies in order to get the train stopped.
