Busy School District of Oconee County Board of Trustees Meeting This Past Monday Night

The School District of Oconee County Board of Trustees had plenty of items on the agenda for their meeting this past Monday night and as we mentioned yesterday, the School Board approved with a 5-0 vote to spend around $830,000 to purchase around 40 acres of property at Wells Highway at Garrison Road for the new Seneca Middle School that is scheduled to be completed as soon as 2023. 

Also, the School Board authorized the School District to conduct a bond sale in the middle of March for up to $16.5 million dollars which will go toward construction projects with about 95% of the money from the bond sale will go towards the construction of the new Hamilton Career Center. 

The School Board also approved other items on the agenda, including the approval of a new deadline on the school choice application policy. According to Steve Hanvey from the School District, the School Choice Application Process open on March 1st and will run through June 7th and the applications must be renewed on a yearly basis. Hanvey says about 1,200 to 1,300 students typically apply for School Choice in a given school year. 

The School Board also approved an Assisting Students with Medication Policy and a brand new policy in regards to Suicide Prevention, Intervention and Postvention.
