Oconee County Holds Regular Tuesday Night Meeting

Last night, Oconee County Council, in a unanimous vote, approved a resolution authorizing the transfer of some existing sewer lines to the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority. The approval should clear the way for a grant of over $5 million for the Sewer South Project that will extend service down to Exits 1 and 2 along I-85 in the southern portion of the County.

Part of the agreement will be for Council to have an ex-officio seat on the Joint Regional Sewer Authority Board but County Council Chairman Julian Davis says that seat would not be a voting seat but would assist with communication and transparency between the two parties. The seat’s approval is pending a vote from the Sewer Authority Board.

In other news from the Council meeting, Council met in Executive Session to discuss three economic development matters and Davis hope some announcements will be forthcoming soon. Also, Council received the Comprehensive Annual Financial Audit report and it showed that the County is in good financial shape.
