340 Citizens With Downloaded Pursuit Alert App Notified Of Recent Pursuit Involving Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy

(Seneca, SC)—————————–We reported recently on a pursuit by a deputy from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office that lasted approximately 32 miles and 57 minutes and stretched from Oconee County into Pickens County before the pursuit ended in Anderson County with the arrest of 27 year old Michael Lee Sammons on multiple charges.

Upon activating his sirens, the deputy also activated his Pursuit Alert device inside his patrol vehicle. Back in January, the Sheriff’s Office announced that it had become the first law enforcement agency in the world to use this technology to alert citizens to a pursuit within a two mile radius of where they are traveling if they have the Pursuit Alert App downloaded on their phone.

Sheriff Mike Crensahw recently provided 94.1 The Lake some stats in regards to those who were notified of this pursuit and some further information and updates concerning Pursuit Alert.

The Sheriff said that 340 citizens who had the app downloaded on their phone were notified about this pursuit and that is somewhat high considering it was a late night pursuit because if someone is home or idle for more than 15 minutes, then that person will not receive a notification in order to prevent citizens from being awoken late at night. The Sheriff is encouraged about citizens being notified and advocates citizens to download the app. The Sheriff said that advertising material has been ordered and the School Resource Officers are in the process of handing out stickers to sophmores, juniors and seniors in high school because those students are driving and elementary and middle schools students are being given information to take home to their parents. The Sheriff said that individuals can go to the Sheriff’s Office website to download the app and the Sheriff says that he is pleased so far with the number of downloads.

Sheriff Crenshaw recommends that not only citizens in Oconee County download the Pursuit Alert App on their phones but also those in neighboring counties and areas whose travel plans take them into Oconee County.
