Seneca Police Department Charges Two Seneca Women With Unlawful Neglect Of A Child

(Seneca, SC)—————The Seneca Police Department charged and arrested two women late last week with three counts each of Unlawful Neglect of a Child. 

The investigation began after a Seneca Police Officer was dispatched to an address on Fairoaks Circle in Seneca in regards to an agency assist with Child Protective Services. The officer was notified while en route to the location that the CPS employee could see children inside of the residence but could not get an adult to the door for an in home visit. 

According to the case report from the Seneca Police Department, after entry into the residence was made later on to conduct a welfare check, the officer discovered dirt and trash on the floor as well as a trash can that was overflowing with trash and dirty diapers. The case report also stated that some of the children inside of the residence were found in unsanitary conditions and other unsanitary conditions were discovered inside of the residence. 

The six children were placed into emergency protective custody by the officer after placement arrangements could not be made elsewhere. 

The two women charged in the incident were 22 year old Karrie K. Barnes and 22 year old Brittany Downs, who both reside at the same address. 

The six children ranged in age from as young as 8 months old to as old as three years old.
