Economic Growth A Reason For Increases In Seneca City Budget

(Seneca, SC)—–Last week, Seneca City Council held a work session and special called Council Meeting, and during that meeting, Council passed on 1st reading the fiscal year 2020 Seneca City Budget.

The General Fund budget will see an increase of over $700,000 from last year’s budget for a total budget of over $12.4 million dollars. The Seneca and Light Water budget will also see an increase of almost $460,000 from last year’s budget for a total budget this year of over $31.6 million dollars.

When asked if the increases in the budget was due to increased economic activity or budgetary priorities that need to be done but have put off, City Administrator Scott Moulder says that he feels it a combination of both.

Moulder says that some of the increases in revenue are related to economic growth along with an increase in some of the property tax elements.

Moulder also pointed to construction and the building permits as an example of the future continued growth. In fact, Moulder said that the number of housing rehab and construction permits is more this year than in a number of years combined.
