Duke Energy’s World Of Energy To Host 50th Anniversary Celebration Thursday, June 27th

(Seneca, SC)——Duke Energy’s World of Energy education center will be hosting an event to celebrate their 50th Anniversary next Thursday, June 27th. The celebration event is free and open to the public. The World of Energy will have popcorn and ice cream available for their guests during the event.

Mikayla Kreuzberger, spokesperson for Duke Energy, said the World of Energy officially opened their doors on July 1st, 1969 as the Keowee Toxaway Visitors Center with more than 250,000 visitors during its first operating year.

The goal of the World of Energy is to provide free education to its visitors about energy and the Oconee Nuclear Station to our community, according to Mikayla.

During next week’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, which will last from 2pm until 7pm, there will be a time of bingo and trivia from 2pm until 4pm with prizes to be given away.

From 5pm until 7pm, a local band called “Those Guys” will be performing on the patio. Mikayla encourages those who attend the concert to bring lawn chairs and a picnic.

A Community Art Project will also be part of the celebration from 2pm until 7pm next Thursday, however, visitors can participate in the project starting next Monday, June 24th.

Guests will be able to park at the World of Energy and overflow parking will be made available as needed. If you plan to attend, make sure to look out for volunteers directing traffic on Highway 130.

The Keowee Toxaway Visitors Center changed its name to the World of Energy in 1985.
