AAA Carolinas Forecasts Over 688,000 South Carolinians To Travel For 4th Of July

(Seneca, SC)——————AAA Carolinas is reporting that an estimated 688,500 South Carolinians are expected to travel 50 miles or more away from home this year for the 4th of July holiday. Over 2,000,000 Carolinians and nearly 49 millions Americans are forecasted to travel for Independence Day.

Of the estimated more than 680,000 South Carolinians expected to travel, the organization predicts that 635,800 will drive to their destination.

According to a release from the organization, a combination of low gas prices and broader economic fundamentals remaining strong are some of the reasons for the travel numbers. Also, with the 4th of July being on a Thursday, there is an expectation of travelers taking the whole week and creating a long weekend for travel.

For those planning a trip, AAA Carolinas predicts drivers could face delays as much as four times a normal commute, with Wednesday, July 3rd being the worst day for the road.

AAA Carolinas is reporting the average gas price in the state of South Carolina at $2.26 cents a gallon, which is 23 cents less that this time last year.
