Unemployment Rate In South Carolina And Oconee County Rises For The Month Of May

(Seneca, SC)——The unemployment rate in the state of South Carolina rose in the month of May to 3.5% from 3.4% in April, according to preliminary stats from the South Carolina Department of Employment and Work Force. 

According to a release on their website, the number of South Carolinians that are working is at an all-time high of 2,286,079. There was also an increase in the number of individuals in the labor force in May which led to an increase in the number of those unemployed by 3,550 as more South Carolinians looked for work. 

In Oconee County, the unemployment rate edged up from 2.8% in April to 3.2% in May as the county saw an increase in the labor force and a decrease in the numbers of those employed. In Anderson County, the unemployment rate also climbed from 2.8% in April to 3.2% in May. In Pickens County, the unemployment rate rose from 2.8% in April to 3.4% in May. 

Nationally, the unemployment rate in May was at 3.6% remaining uncaged since April.
