South Carolina Department Of Public Safety Participating This Week In Initiative To Reduce Speed Related Deaths And Collisions

(Seneca, SC)–The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has announced that South Carolina has joined with five other southeastern states and the Region 4 of the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration for Operation Southern Shield.

The initiative is an increased law enforcement effort that will be going on this week to reduce speed relates deaths and collisions.

The other states who are participating, besides South Carolina, are Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.

In 2018, there were over 44,000 speed related collisions on South Carolina roadways and more than 36 percent of all fatal roadways collisions in South Carolina were speed-related, according to the Department of Public Safety.
