Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Assigns Deputy To Courthouse To Enhance Security

(Seneca, SC)—-The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has announced in a press release that they have increased security at the Oconee County Courthouse by assigning a part-time deputy to the courthouse.

Sheriff Mike Crenshaw gave the oath of office to Deputy Billy Lusk, who has worked as a Bailiff at the courthouse for the past two years.

According to a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Office, County Council funded a part-time bailiff for the courthouse in the current budget and Sheriff Crenshaw agreed to fund an additional approximately $5,000 out of his current budget to have the needed $20,000 for a part-time sworn deputy instead of a bailiff which has no law enforcement authority.

The release says that deputies provide a mandated security role for all judicial court proceedings at the courthouse.
