DHEC Confirms: Feline in Anderson Tests Positive for Rabies

A cat found in Anderson County near Academy Street and West Main Street in Williamston has tested positive for rabies, according to DHEC Officials. Two people were exposed to the cat and have been referred to their health care providers. The cat was submitted to DHEC’s laboratory for testing on June 16 and was confirmed to have rabies on June 17. It is important to keep pets up to date on their rabies vaccination, as this
is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect against the disease. This cat is the third animal in Anderson County to test positive for rabies. There have been 59 cases of rabid animals statewide this year.
