Are Mandatory Masks in Clemson Working?

The City of Clemson may need more time to determine whether its mandatory mask law in public is succeeding in lowering case numbers in one of South Carolina’s hot spots for COVID-19. The city continues to analyze results from samples of the wastewater processed by its treatment facilities. In a statement, Clemson city officials said, “Thus far, these results indicate that the virus is being actively transmitted in the Clemson area. Wearing a face covering has been shown to decrease the likelihood of transmission, especially when in conjunction with social distancing.” The Town of Central has also enacted an ordinance requiring the use of face coverings in public.
