Health Officials Want More Testing At Utica Mill Site Prior to New Housing and Commercial Development

As part of a voluntary cleanup effort at the remains of Utica’s former textile building and property, state environmental authorities want more testing at the site before Studio Investment Group buys the South 6th Street location to develop it for multi-family living and commercial use. There is concern that the old textile mill may have caused pollution to the environment, and according to DHEC officials, that a review of a report from samplings under the Brownfields Voluntary Cleanup Contract have caused them to request additional samplings, the results of which could be available in a few weeks.
