No Change to Livestock Rules in Walhalla After Planning Commission Review

Last night, Walhalla’s Planning Commission adhered to the City Council’s request to make a decision as to whether or not a local ordinance should be changed in order to allow a resident to keep and maintain livestock on their property.

The issue arose after a Walhalla woman recently requested permission from the council to keep a domesticated pot bellied pig as a pet. But Chairman and former Walhalla Police Officer Chris Grant said that, he once had to figure out what to do with six stray horses found on Broad Street early one morning before rush hour…

Planning commissioners had expressed some concern that if that pet was allowed to remain, then the city would have to allow residents to keep anything from cows and miniature horses to goats and chickens.

When it was all said and done, however, the commission decided to not make any changes to the law, which was last amended over thirty years ago.
