Oakway Student wins Honorable Mention

An Oconee County public school student gained honorable mention in this year’s Project Sentry Logo Contest, sponsored by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in South Carolina. A certificate of appreciation and a ribbon went to Oakway Intermediate School’s Lilly Smith, who competed in the 3-5 grades division. The statewide contest gives South Carolina students a chance to tell the entire state how they prevent gun violence in their school. Project Sentry is part of a safe neighborhood and cease-fire program, which is considered a vital step in strengthening the country’s ability to prevent gun crimes among young people and to ensure learning is conducted in a safe atmosphere.
