May is National Water Safety Month

May is National Water Safety Month, and at last night’s city council meeting in Walhalla, a resolution was presented to Council Member Wayne McCall for his efforts in the restoration of the Walhalla City Pool on West Main Street, which is operated for the City by the Foothills Area YMCA.

McCall thanked Mayor Edwards and the Council, but said he alone did not bring the pool back to life. He credited the mayor, the county sheriff, and others, who volunteered their services. Labor for the project was provided by the Sheriff’s Office in the form of County inmates.

McCall added that, in light of water safety month, drowning knows no color, and that the YMCA does an outstanding job operating the pool…

The Walhalla City Pool will welcome swimmers on Saturday and maintain weekend hours until Memorial Day, when it will switch to its traditional daily schedule of swimming, swim lessons, and other aquatic events.
