OC Fire Dept thanks Volunteers

Last week during National Volunteer Appreciation Week, Oconee County Emergency Services saluted the more than 400 professional volunteers who serve the community every day.  Emergency Service Volunteers in Oconee County annually respond to nearly 6,000 incidents and participate in 20,000 hours of training, without compensation. These volunteers sacrifice and dedication to service is invaluable to those they swore to protect.  Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King says, “We will never be able to say “thank you” enough for the sacrifices each of you make. Two great leaders in our volunteer force, Steve Chupp and Tom Meartens, are featured in the weekend edition of The Journal, which has run a week long series depicting volunteers from various fields across Oconee County. Steve and Tom are both a great examples of the citizens and leaders that make our organization successful.”  The community is invited to Fire Service Appreciation Day on June 22 at South Cove Park.  The day features games for the kids, food, music, and presentation of awards. Come out and share a great day of fellowship from 11am to 3pm.
