Rally against Prescription Drug Abuse

An increase number of prescription drug abuse cases in the School District of Pickens County have lead school officials to meet with parents on the problem.  Monday night, the school district held a rally at Pickens High School to inform parents about the escalating problem and putting an end to this rising trend. The school district, along with law enforcement, a pharmacist, substance abuse counselors and even a former addict shared their experiences to better educate the community. According to a report from South Carolina’s Inspector General, in 2011, 255 people in the state died from prescription drug overdoses.  Pickens County accounted for more than 18% of that total.
