Dirt thrown and Price finalized on New WHS

A large crowd gathered on the site of the new Walhalla High School at 5pm yesterday to throw dirt.  School and district staff, students, Oconee County Council members, and citizens joined the Board of Trustees for the School District of Oconee County at the graded site on SC 11 in Picket Post.  After the ceremony, Trustees convened their monthly board meeting in the District Office. They discussed and approved a guaranteed maximum price in the amount of $54,498,000 for the new Walhalla High School.   That figure is roughly $4.5 million above original projections for construction of the new school. The guaranteed maximum price will cover the academic buildings and athletic facilities, including a football stadium but excluding tennis courts. The School District anticipates having the school ready for classes by August of 2015.
