Warning about Drownings over Memorial Weekend

Hundreds of children die each year in swimming pools and spas. As Memorial Day approaches, the Consumer Product Safety Commission is urging parents to teach their children to swim. The Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Kathleen Reilly gives details.  “About 400 children or 390 to be exact children under the age of 15 drown in swimming pools or spas every year.  That is only swimming pools or spas.” Reilly says the reason for many of the drownings is because pools and spas are not fenced properly. “They are drowning in their home pool, in a neighbor’s pool or in a family member’s pool.” Teach your children to obey safety rules around pools and spas.  Tell them to always swim with a buddy and with a parents supervision.
