Third of SHS Class of 2013 to receive Honors

School is out for the summer in the School District of Oconee County. On Saturday, 667 graduates will walk across the stage at Clemson’s Littlejohn Coliseum.  The Class of 2013 in the School District of Oconee County earned over $20 million in scholarship monies. SenecaHigh School holds its graduation ceremony at 11:30am Saturday at Littlejohn Coliseum.   Seneca High School guidance director Karen Trammell says a third of these graduates will be receiving honors.  “36 high honor graduates and 47 honor graduates, so a third of our senior class is going to graduate with honors.” The Class of 2013 from Seneca High School features 240 graduates.  These graduates from Seneca High School earned $12,916,497 in scholarships.  Elizabeth Evans is this year’s valedictorian from Seneca High School and Cassidy Westmoreland is the salutatorian.  Now that school is out, Trammell encourages students to continue learning this summer.  “I think it is very important for the kids to stay active whether it be physically through sports or doing some reading.  I know many classes do have summer reading, but I think it is equally important for them to read for pleasure, read something they want to read.  Get involved in some leadership activities and many of the different colleges in the area have different programs of different interests that kids can get involved with, but get out a do something.  Go to a church camp, go to a sports camp and do something to stay active and not sit on the couch for a couple of months.” To see ideas for keeping your kids active this summer, visit the School District of Oconee County’s website at www.oconee.k12.sc.us.
