Summer Employment Outlook

The summer outlook for job seekers just got a little brighter. Twenty-two percent of employers surveyed by Manpower, Inc. say that they plan to add workers to their payrolls in the third quarter. Beth Herman of Manpower says that the consulting firm expects to see growth in every industry sector it monitors but a couple could be particularly strong in the third quarter. “All of them said that they plan to increase but the two notable ones that we saw were construction and leisure and hospitality.” Herman says that this is the second quarter in a row that employers in every state are reporting positive hiring plans. “It went from 18 to 22% and that is a four year high for us.” Manpower surveyed 18,000 employers nationwide and found 70% plan to maintain staff levels, 2% don’t know and 6% plan to make cuts.
