Review Fire Escape Plan this summer

Now that kids are out of school for the summer, review safety measures with them about the dangers in and around your home.  The number one danger is fire.  Teach kids what to do in the event of a fire and make sure they know where to go and what to do says Oconee County Firefighter and District Fire Marshall with the Picket Post Camp Oak Fire Department TJ Harlos.  “I can’t say enough about escape plans.  Young kids, adults, seniors, it applies to all of us.  Your main job in a fire is to get out, let the volunteers and professionals come in and find out why it started, but the main point is to get out.” Develop a fire safety escape plan with your family.  Designate a meeting place away from the home, call 911 and wait for firefighters to arrive.  Do not attempt to retrieve items from inside a burning building because nothing is more valuable than life.
