OC Sheriff’s Office makes Weekend Drug Arrests

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office made a couple of drug arrests on Father’s Day.  The first arrest came during the early morning hours Sunday, when deputies were dispatched to Holders Landing Road in Seneca around 2:36am in response to a disturbance.  As deputies checked the area, they found a group of individuals trying to get into their vehicles in the lower parking area.  Deputies then checked the ids of the subjects.  After a search, a small baggy containing a white crystal like substance was found in the pocket of one of the individuals.  24-year-old Rashaun Roberson of Seneca was arrested and charged with possession of crack.  Deputies were also advised that another individual at the scene, 28-year-old Charles Clark of Seneca, had an active bench warrant for possession of cocaine, first offense.  Both Roberson and Clark were transported to the Oconee County Detention Center for booking. The second arrest occurred later on Father’s Day after deputies spotted a white sports bike traveling on Sitton Shoals Road at a high rate of speed.  Deputies later spotted the motorcycle lying in the roadway and a white male getting off the roadway.  The subject told deputies that he was speeding and looking around to see if deputies were in pursuit, in which time he forgot about the stop sign at the intersection and then locked the brakes.  Deputies asked the subject if he was okay and he refused EMS treatment.  While the deputy on scene was walking back toward his patrol car, he noticed a black case lying in the roadway.  Upon investigation, the case contained two baggies, one with a green leafy substance and one with a white crystal like substance.  The subject later told the deputy, the white crystal like substance was “ice” and the green leafy substance was “marijuana.” After checking his driver’s license, the subject was identified as 35-year-old Carl Edward Surrat of Seneca.  He was transported to the Oconee County Detention Center where he was charged with simple possession of marijuana and distribution of methamphetamines, second offense.
