Two killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces two people were killed on state roads and highways from Friday, June 14, at 6pm until Sunday, June 16, at midnight.  As of June 16, 305 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 387 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012.  Oconee County reports one highway fatality in 2013 compared to seven in 2012.  Pickens County lists eight in 2013 and ten in 2012.  Anderson County has experienced 11 highway deaths in 2013 and 20 in 2012. Of the 215 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2013, 129 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight June 16, 33 pedestrians, 44 motorcyclists and 6 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight June 16, 2013.
