Structure Fire in Fair Play

Firefighters were dispatched to a kitchen fire Tuesday afternoon in Fair Play.  Shortly after 1pm, the Oconee County 911 Center received several calls reporting a structure fire on Friendship Road. Fire crews arrived to find the kitchen of the home on fire and one man injured. The fire was quickly contained and the man treated for minor burns and transported to Oconee Medical Center.  Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King reports the fire was caused by unattended cooking in the home. The home did have smoke detectors installed, but they were found to be inoperable. Fire crews installed new detectors prior to leaving the scene.  Emergency crews responding to the fire call were from the Friendship Fire Department, Seneca Fire Department,  Crossroads Fire Department, Oconee County Fire Department as well as Oconee County Fire Marshall Shane Gibbs.
